When an Addition Makes Sense

Adding on is worth a look when the location suits you but the house is short on space: one bedroom too few, a living room that cannot fit everyone, no real primary suite. It is also the biggest project we take on, with new footings, new framing, a connection to the existing structure and a full interior.

More stages mean more handoffs, which is exactly where a single point of contact earns its keep. That person keeps foundation, framing, tie-in and finish work in order and tells you as each stage wraps.

What Goes Into an Addition

  • Footings and framing

New footings with a slab or crawlspace, then walls and structure built so the new floor meets the old one without a step.

  • The tie-in

The old exterior wall gets opened, outside materials and trim are matched, and heating and cooling are extended to reach the new space.

  • Inside the new rooms

Insulation, drywall and paint, plus whatever wiring, lighting and supply lines a bathroom, walk-in closet or open living area calls for.

What to Know Before Planning

  • What your lot allows

Setbacks, easements and zoning limit where and how big you can build. Those get confirmed before anything is priced.

  • Up or out

Building out needs yard space; building up needs a foundation and walls that can carry a second story. Each changes the cost.

  • Add on or move

Weigh the full cost of the addition against selling, buying and moving, including the hassle of leaving a neighborhood you like.

Home Addition FAQs

How long will an addition take?

Typically several months. Foundation work, framing, inspections and interior finishes run in sequence, and the written schedule shows when each should wrap up.

Will the addition look like it was always there?

That is the goal. We match exterior materials, trim and floor height where the house allows, so the step from old space to new is hard to spot.
